What moment of karma did you witness while in the military?

Instant karma in the military? Oh yes! This is the story of Sergeant Hahn and how he was served a strong dose of karma and earned a nickname that would stick with him forever.

You see.. Sergeant Hahn was a young and motivated squad leader in charge of about 8-10 troopers in an armored reconnaissance company. He was a good leader, but really tough on his guys so they had a bit of a love/hate relationship with him.

We were out in the field for an extended training operation when I saw Sgt. Hahn making his guys do some pushups and flutter kicks in the hot Georgia summer heat.

Physical remediation isn’t generally done while in a field exercise but to each his own. He had a smirk on his face when suddenly his demeanor instantly changed and he sprinted off to use the porta john.

His soldiers got up and I saw them give each other a few high fives, so perhaps they slipped a extra little something into his lunch to make him need to go to the bathroom.

He’d been taking care of business for a good 5 minutes at this point, with no sign of emerging, when I heard the distinct sound of helicopters approaching.

They just happened to be two big CH-47 Chinook helicopters. You know... the big ones that can carry 40+ people, or even lift large pieces of military equipment.

Well, they also create a lot of rotor wash and whoever placed the porta johns didn’t realize they put them in the direct path of the helicopter’s approach.

As the Chinooks flew in just above the tree line, they knocked the porta johns down like toothpicks and sent them rolling with Sgt. Hahn inside.

He would later emerge covered head to toe in that blue substance (among other things) as hundreds of guys had been using them for the past couple days.

Instant karma. Sergeant Hahn would forever be known from that point forward as Sgt. Porta Hahn.
